Tracking and Traps

Over the last few weeks we are learning about setting Tracking Tunnels to to try and find out what predators are around our school. Kauri showed us some Tracking Tunnels we put about 2 at the back of the school by the river and around the chickens we went to have a little look the next day we saw no footprints of any kind of predators. Kauri came and showed us a little dead stoat that she had found around her place. Tracking Tunnels will only work if you have an ink pad if you don't then that means you cannot find out what predators are around our neighbourhood. To set Tracking Tunnels you need peanut butter if you want to catch a rat then peanut butter suits better. or an egg if you want to catch a stoat then you need a ink pad and some ink. Kauri came in and showed us a mouse trap to demonstrate it she used the dead stoat to show us how a mouse trap works. We had another look last friday and we went to go and look at the traps we saw some mouse footprints and rats. When you are setting up a mouse trap you need to watch out for your fingers if you are not watching and step or touch it then it can really hurt.
