Camping Ground Sites Math - Summer Learning Journey Day 13.

Today for our last activity we did a math activity, where we had to try and make an equal camp site with squares with grids in them and at the end we had to do some 15 times tables to work out how much money they would've cost to stay in. I learnt a lot of different things and it was very confusing at first but got the hang of it as I went on.

I found nothing challenging other than the first few slides which were very confusing. I enjoyed most of it and I learnt some new math skills. It got harder and harder until the one where there was a toilet block in the middle and you couldn't really go through it or past it.

Here is my google slide on my maths activity:

  2. Kia ora Manvi,

Fiona here from the SLJ team. Happy New Year to you and welcome to 2021!

Great work completing the camping ground activity all about area - ka pai! You have done a great job highlighting the tent sites and the toilet block to work out the amount of money that can be made. I really like how you have shown your working out so we can see the calculations you used.

I think if I were camping at this campground, I would like the tent configuration on slide 4 the most because it looks less crowded and the sites are bigger. Do you ever go camping?

I enjoyed this activity and learning about measurement and area in a real life context. Well done for persisting with this activity even when it was challenging.

Mā te wā - I can’t wait to see your other posts over the summer.

    Fiona (SLJ).

I would also prefer the slide 4 tent site too, my family doesn't often go camping but we might be looking forward to soon! Do you and your family go camping often?

I enjoyed this activity because it got my brain thinking and that's what we want, for us to try. Do you like maths?

  3. Mōrena Manvi,

I hope you do get to go camping with your family one day! My family and I don't really go camping much because we don't have all the gear like a proper tent and air beds. Last year we went camping and our tent had a hole in it - everything got wet and we didn't really have a great time!

I do enjoy maths, especially when the activity relates to a real life problem like spending money or dividing pizza into fractions.

    Keep up the awesome mahi!

    Fiona (SLJ).
